Miss Union Maid of 1961 riding on a float with the other finalists in that year's Labor Day Parade.  "Union Maids" were part of the long-standing campaign to urge consumers to buy "union made" goods, demonstrating a concern for the working conditions of the people who manufactured the clothes, appliances and other items.
